Not a whole lot to say in words about our night out; we just wanted to get some pictures on the blog. Our tour started as every cruise nightmare starts: 5 full buses to a restaurant. We all descended upon this place at once and they did a pretty good job of feeding all of us. It was the churriascura (sp?) style of restaurant similar to our Brazilian restaurant in Cincinnati. There’s a salad and side dish bar and the waiters come around with skewers of meat and slice off pieces for the diners. The food was so-so, the free house wine was terrible, but we had some good company and a few laughs.
After dinner we all piled into the buses again and drove about a ½ hour to a show house. The drive was great. It took us along Copacabana and Ipanema beaches and it looked wonderful at night. The road was lined with million dollar apartment buildings, high class hotels, bustling cafes. The waves were unusually high, with about 5-6 foot swells. There were some elaborate sand sculptures visible at the edge of the road.
The show was called a Samba show but there was a variety of acts. I’m not going to describe it all; I’ll just leave it to the pictures to show the fabulous costumes, the scantily clad girls and the acrobatic men. The show was over around midnight, the first time we’d been up that late for a long time. But it was fun and the only way we would have gone out at night in Rio de Janeiro.
